The First Whisper of Spring: Wood Elves in May

I am 98% certain that May will see the release of the new Wood Elf book. To say that this book has been a long time coming would be the understatement of the week. But i don't want to dwell on the bad but instead look optimistically to the future. So what do we know about the new book? Nothing. But the mere fact that we are getting one is good enough. Instead i present to you a list of things that i am hoping for in the new book, i did publish a list like this a few months ago but i have now used almost every unit in the Wood Elf book (bar special characters, Glade Riders, Warhawk Riders and Branchwraiths).

1: Strength 4 Longbows for all!
This is a big one. If Waywatchers, Scouts, Warhawk Riders and Glade Riders all got strength 4 longbows (and by strength 4 i mean strength 4 all the time, not just at short range) then those units would not only instantly be worth (or in the case of the Glade Riders, who are 24 points each, partly worth) their points cost but people would actually consider taking those units. Right now in my 2400 point list i am  debating taking two units of 6 Waywatchers or 1 extra Treeman. If Waywatchers got strength 4 shots then i would take them over the extra Treeman instantly. I may even consider Glade Riders if they get the bow, but at 24 points a pop maybe not.

Wood Elves live by the bow, so lets give them a decent bow

Excellent News!!!!

Mordheim is being made into a video game! This is some of the best news i have heard this year as Mordheim was my favorite GW game when i was going to college. It is being made by Focus interactive who made the Blood Bowl PC game (Very Good) and Space Hulk PC game (Average). Below is the link to their web page and screenshots of the game, enjoy.

In The Name Of The Dark God

A while back started a WH40k Chaos Space Marine army. But this was an army with a difference, not only would the army be dedicated to Malal, a chaos god GW had to drop for legal reasons whose primary sphere of influence is discord and anarchy, but the marines would be a kit bash between chaos space marines and chaos warriors. There are a few pictures and posts of these models last year and progress has been slow. But this weekend i decided to do some work on the army. One of the results was more painted models, the second result was a fully built, custom designed Dark Apostle model, this would be the third HQ model made for this army, pictures below.

How Not To Release A Limited Edition Model

A while back GW announced that they planned to release a model for the Void Shield Generator, and that there would only be 1000 copies of this model made.  Now when this was announced my reaction was mild indifference, a limited edition model for a piece of terrain wasn't interesting and when i saw the model itself i became less interested.  However while scanning though the blog Faeit 212 (in the hope that there would be any scarp of information about the new wood elf book) i came across a article that stated that GW had over sold the Void Shield Generator, that there were people who had bought the model online but wont receive a model because there were no more models to receive.

The most unimpressive limited edition model to date

The Morale Issue

The way the 40k and Fantasy deal with leadership and morale are similar and yet both affect their respective systems is vastly different. In 40k i have observed that morale has little to no impact where as in fantasy a failed leadership test can loose you the game.

Both systems have the same basic mechanic, all morale related tests (be they fear, terror, panic or break tests) require the player the roll 2d6 and compare the results to the model in question's Leadership value, if the die result is equal to or under the LD value the test is passed and all remains normal and if the die result is over the LD value then  the test has been failed and the unit/model suffers the consequences (usually running away).

The EA of Wargaming

Ever since i got back into Warhammer Fantasy i have maintained that GW is the "EA of Wargaming". For those who dont know EA is the name of a video game company widely despised in the video game community for such things like Day 1 DLC, Pay to Win and Pay to Play practises, all of which involve charging the customer more money. Before i go on i want to make my position clear: I don't not like the current pricing of GW models and how many you get per "Box" of models. I still love playing WHFB and think that the current set of rules for fantasy are some of the best ever, my issue with GW is very specific and narrow and generally speaking i find GW's models and rules to be top quality.

So what do i mean when i say that GW is the EA of the wargaming industry. Well its simple, GW's business practices and pricing are aimed to draw as much money as they can get away with out of the customer, and the most visible example, of this is the Data slates and formations that are now being sold on the Black Library website.

Ask And The Forest Will Answer

When i got home from work today the following were waiting on my bed.

These were bought off were bought off the GW website, and before i go on let me explain. These units form part of my revamped Wood Elf army that i plan to enter in Runefang during April. I simply didn't have the time to find alternate Dryad or Waywatcher models, so feel to rail against me in the comment sections but keep in mind that i plan to buy a limited edition Wood Elf Army Book when they come on sale in may. On the positive side i order the models last Thursday and they arrived today (Tuesday) so well done GW on the speedy delivery,  but you never thought i would say that.

The Problem with Wood Elves.......

.......Is that the book is just too dammed nice. After my complete pasting at the NZTC i took some time to reflect, by myself and with others, upon what was wrong with the Wood Elf book, besides it being written for 6th edition. My conclusion is that the Wood Elf book is trying so hard to balanced, it actively restricts combos of items and units that were broken in 6th but are now common place.

One of the last softback army books

Loosing is a Theme: NZTC Day 2

Day 2 of the NZTC has come and gone, and so i present to you my write up 2nd day of the event.

Game 4: Rowan

The word "Game" is misleading. Rowan had a Dwarf guneline with 26 Quarrelers and 20 Thunderers, a Organ Gun, 2 Bolt Throwers, a Flaming Cannon and a Grudge Thrower (he was using the old Goblin Hewer from the Storm of Chaos range). He won turn 1 in which he killed the Treeman Ancient with 12 wounds from the Flaming Cannon. Turn 2 he killed the other 2 Treemen. You may notice that i haven't mentioned what i killed, thats because i didn't kill anything. You see this wasnt a game, it was a round of Dwarf target practice. 20-0 to Rowan who was a decent opponent.

Underdog Underfight: NZTC Day 1

March 1st was the first day of the NZTC (the "New Zealand Team Championship" for those who dont know) and it was also my first day of team based warhammer. I captained the 250ths of the Legion of Doom (not my choice of name honest) and going into this event i knew that we wouldn't be playing from a position of strength, for most of the team this was their first taste of competitive warhammer and i was taking Wood Elves. As per usual i took many photos (89 to be precise) and will be uploading all the good ones.
